  my wife found this 1/4 page ad on page 2 of yesterday's nj star-ledger, probably the biggest newspaper in nj.

  They have teamed up with a firm that has specialized in child abuse cases for the expertise in handling the emotions that would come up with clients in dealing with this. -- RICHARD OLIVER

  It does really seem that way.

  Some of the wording in the ad in spot-on:

  It's not too late to receive help and seek accountability for those responsible. This is not something to be handled privately by the Watchtower!

  Also the website:

  Allegedly, more than 25 years ago, the Jehovah’s Witness’ Governing Body, the group of men who make and approve all policies, sent a memo to the elders of all 14,000 congregations stating that child sex abuse is a private matter and shouldn’t be discussed with anyone, especially the police. The memo also stated that revealing child sex abuse to law enforcement would result in punishment.
  It is believed that elders were instead instructed to fill out a form when abuse occurred. These forms were then scanned into a database. This leads investigators to believe that there are thousands of hidden records of sexual abuse within the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

  This isn't some cookie-cutter operation. They've obviously done their homework.

  ok, so i don't know if this is "old news", and if this has been seen, and or mentioned already.

  if it was, i do apologize, but i feel i have to mention what has been seen on tv, within the past 24 hours.. first off, i would like to say that i did not personally see this commercial.

  however, it was seen by someone that i can verify 100% is telling the truth, as it was my own father who saw it.

  Almost certainly not. These guys are bloodsuckers and they must see WT as ripe for harvest. I just hope they do right by the victims.

  It is exciting news, but I think it is wise to double check the reputations of the law firms involved before getting too carried away. There are a few comments on the reddit forum that have chastened my enthusiasm a little. -- COBWEB

  I agree 100%.

  When I've heard Rick Simons or Irwin Zalkin talk about their cases, they really do seem intent not only on righting an injustice with regards to their respective clients, but they also talk about effecting change on WT's child abuse policy.

  When I heard Weitz & Luxenberg was the source of these ads, the first words that popped into my mind were "ambulance chasers," "slip-and-fall" and "sharks."

  That being said, I personally don't care what their intentions are, as long as they sue the shit out of WT and get their clients what they deserve. WT hasn't been open to learning any lessons anyway.

  Yes, and this is "in their own back yard" so to speak.

  For anyone who has lived in Bethel's physical reach (a "Bethel" congregation in the NYC metro area), when lawsuits happen in California, they may as well be happening in Timbuktu. No one really takes it seriously around here.

  The saying goes something like "The further away from Bethel, the further away from Bethel."

  This hits REALLY close to home.

  I am thinking now, that this might be regional thing, and maybe it wasn't a national commercial he saw, since the add your wife saw, was in the NJ paper. -- DUNEDAIN

  Personally, there are a lot of rules in the Bible I don't subscribe to.

  I've heard they are attracted to paper and glue. People can't let anything moist around. You are supposed to dry your sinks. If this new powder works the way boric acid does, you see them losing ground and falling to the ground. One week showed incredible results.
  

  Adopt the attitude that you will eradicate them. Trust fund kids seem to enjoy them. Not me!

  the Book of Enoch and the Nephilim

  i've heard all my cognizant life that angels from heaven looked upon the daughters of men, took wives, and their wives bore giants called nephilim.. i've heard all my adult life about the book of enoch and why it's apocryphal and to be avoided.. so tonight i was curious enough to download an e-book and have a look, since dothemath had the thread about rarely used scriptures and the book of jude directly quotes from the book of enoch.. if jude quotes from enoch, shouldn't both or neither of them be canonical?

  if you consider jude canonical, then enoch should be too.. hey, how many fallen angels were there again?

  So, this is silly, isn't it? If you accept Jude in the canon, you must also accept Enoch, and then revel in the magic and high fantasy therein.

  Here's watchtower's (and I believe other fundamentalist's) work-around for that one:

  Just because it LOOKS like Jude is citing the book of Enoch, doesn't mean it is. There could be another source that both Jude and the Book of Enoch are both citing separately.
